Getting to know Hector Ventura

Hector is a licensed psychotherapist and certified life coach. He provides psychotherapy virtually throughout the states of Florida, Texas, Virginia, and Utah. His practice is physically based in the Tampa Bay Area. He specializes in working with males who struggle with depression, trauma, grief, and imposter syndrome. Hector earned his Master's in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington and holds a Bachelor's degree from La Sierra University. As a Hispanic male, Hector has seen how cultural stigma keeps men from seeking help. It's why some men play tough and suffer in silence. Research shows that men are more likely to commit suicide and less likely to get professional help compared to women. As a male therapist who's also been in therapy, he knows how hard it is to ask for help. Moreover, there's a quote he likes to share: “I'm not what has happened to me, I am what I choose to become.” Hector is here to help you on your wellness journey. Don't forget that the journey is just as important as the destination.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Hector is action-oriented, open-minded & down to earth when working with clients. He's a trauma-informed clinician that's experienced working with diverse populations. He's bilingual, & speaks Spanish fluently & enjoys being a resource to Hispanic community. Moreover, he's trained in various evidence-based approaches like Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, & Motivational Interviewing in my practice. There isn't a one size fits all solution. That's why Hector primarily uses a Solution-Focused approach so he can tailor conversations to the needs of clients.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Upon scheduling an appointment, you'll receive intake documents by email. Clients are expected to complete these onboarding forms before our appointment. That way way you can familiarize yourself with Hector's practice policies & he can learn more about your clinical history. The first session consists of learning more about your current problems & establishing goals. Follow up sessions will focus on exploring the best strategies to achieve your goals. Moreover, Hector uses measurement-based care to assess your well-being throughout therapy. Occasionally homework is discussed as a way to implement strategies discussed in-session. Remember “a goal without a plan is only a wish”.
