“Dr. Hernandez is wonderful. She always leaves space for extrapolation and self-discovery, while posing questions that guide you into further understanding. She is a very warm person and is able to coax out true forgiveness of self, even when one is in a pit of self-loathing. She is also incredibly intelligent and a great educator. I highly recommend her.”

Getting to know Heidi Hernandez

Hi, my name is Heidi Hernandez. I am a second-generation Filipino American and a first-generation college graduate. I earned both my Bachelor's and Master's in Counseling from California State University, East Bay. As a child of immigrant parents, I struggled with managing the influences of two cultures alongside the added stress of navigating intersecting LGBTQ identities. These experiences inspired me to pursue a career in mental health, representing marginalized communities and helping emerging adults cope with life transitions, family conflict, generational and cultural issues, depression, and anxiety. I am passionate about supporting young adults in living authentically with improved self-esteem and motivation to thrive. Are you experiencing a recent life transition causing stress, anxiety, or depression? Whether it's moving, starting college, a job change or loss, breakups, family changes, or coming out, I will partner with you to develop healthier coping strategies. I will support you in prioritizing self-care and empower you to move forward with more motivation, energy, and purpose. Are you having conflicts with family over generational or cultural differences in values and expectations? I can help you set healthy boundaries, strengthen your support systems, and learn how to have deeper, more honest conversations effectively and safely. Are you exploring your gender or sexual identity? I would be honored to share a safe space with you and help you work through your thoughts and emotions at whatever pace feels right. If any of this resonates with you, please don't hesitate to reach out. Therapy can feel scary, whether it's your first time or not. Just because you're getting older doesn't mean you should have life figured out. I'd be happy to work alongside you as your supporter, ally, and coach. Together, we will learn, grow, and celebrate every step forward toward living a more authentic, meaningful, and healthy life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

We’d be a good fit if you like a non-directive counseling style with intentional and respectful confronting and occasional homework. You will learn healthier ways to manage stress and pay attention to what is happening in your mind, body, and around you in the present moment. Rather zooming in on a problem, we will partner up in finding solutions that may help get you unstuck. You have freedom to steer the direction, set the pace, and I'll help you stay on course. You get to decide the goals in which you would like to reach. I am committed to helping you uncover or build on your strengths and values so you can make decisions that are in alignment with what's important to you. You will learn to look at difficult situations in a more adaptive way and look at yourself as a source of strength.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
