Getting to know Helen Almonacid

Through counseling, I strive to build a safe space and reliable support system for clients. I look forward to meeting clients of diverse cultural backgrounds and implementing various clinical interventions to best meet their needs. I am an affirming therapist for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. I provide therapy to teens, adolescents, and adults facing challenges such as complex relationship dynamics, academic stressors, anxiety, depression, and trauma. My goal is to help clients uncover the strength and resilience that has always been within them . There is no specific formula for counseling; as a clinician, I adapt the therapeutic process based on ethical principles and direct client feedback. I would love the opportunity to help navigate the nuances of self-discovery and personal growth alongside you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a provisionally licensed mental health counselor with a dedication to client wellness and the therapeutic process. I earned both my bachelor's degree in Psychology and master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from St. John's University. In session, I use a person-centered approach to foster the counseling relationship and develop common ground. I implement a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy, encouragement, and supportive reflection to increase client confidence and motivation through a trauma informed lens. Empathy and understanding are both cornerstones of my practice. We will work together to create an appropriate and helpful direction to bring clarity to your concerns.
