Getting to know Helene Barnett

I have been a therapist for over 30 years and work mainly for an insight oriented point of view using Psychodynamic, CBT and DBT skills. I have been influenced by humanistic, interpersonal and Gestalt Therapies. I have attended the Gestalt Institute for Psychotherapy in addiction to my two degrees in Psychology and Social Work and believe that our minds and bodies are connected.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe it is important to be clear, non-judgmental and emphatic in supporting a person's desire to find a new meaning, change, and find a new understanding of themselves. Significant change takes place on an emotional level and involves reworking the way we think and behave leading to a change in the way we feel. My approach involves creating a safe, secure, non-judgmental atmosphere. My style in interactive--listening, mirroring and reflecting back what i hear to my client. I work individually and with couples as well as groups on issues of addiction, codependency, depression, anxiety and relationships as well as working with "the worried well".

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I have extensive knowledge of relationships, addiction and co-occurring disorders. More than anything, I believe that change is possible! Lets get to know one another and see if we make a good fit to explore change
