Getting to know Helon Belton

My name is Helon Belton, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), and EMDR Certified Therapist. I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio and am honored to serve clients as an Army Veteran. I believe that healing happens in a safe, supportive, and authentic therapeutic relationship. My goal is to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where you feel seen, heard, and empowered to move toward meaningful change. I work with adults experiencing trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, self-esteem challenges, and substance use concerns. My approach is personalized and integrative, drawing from EMDR, attachment-focused therapy, inner-child work, and parts work (Internal Family Systems-informed therapy) to help you understand and heal the different parts of yourself that may be carrying pain, fear, or protective roles. Together, we will build on your strengths, foster self-compassion, and create a path toward healing, resilience, and lasting change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I use an integrative, trauma-informed, and person-centered approach to therapy, which means treatment is tailored to your unique needs rather than a one-size-fits-all process. I believe you are the expert on your life, and my role is to guide and support you on your journey of self-discovery and healing while moving at a pace that feels manageable for you. In our early work together, we focus on understanding your story, current challenges, and what you hope will feel different in your life. The intake process includes a comprehensive assessment of your experiences from childhood to the present, helping us create a thoughtful and personalized treatment plan. Depending on your needs, therapy may include developing coping skills for intense emotions, identifying and shifting negative core beliefs, exploring relationship patterns, engaging in parts work and inner-child healing, or processing deeper emotional experiences through EMDR and other evidence-based approaches. Progress often looks like feeling more grounded, self-aware, and empowered to respond to life with greater clarity, confidence, and intention.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work together typically begins with an initial assessment where I learn about your history, current concerns, relationships, strengths, and goals for therapy. From there, we identify patterns that may be contributing to your difficulties and develop a treatment plan that aligns with what you hope to achieve. As therapy progresses, we work on building insight, developing coping strategies, and addressing underlying issues that may be keeping you stuck. Depending on your needs, our work may include EMDR, parts work, attachment and inner-child healing, or exploring relationship patterns and negative core beliefs. Throughout the process, I check in regularly about what is and isn't working, adjusting our approach as needed. Therapy is collaborative, and we move at a pace that feels safe and manageable while working toward meaningful and lasting change.

Helon is always a pleasure to work with. He is great at leading the sessions, helping me plan and set goals, deal with emotional challenges, and most importantly he is able to call me out when I’m veering away from my goals without condemning me. He is encouraging in a way that has helped me see my value. He always comes with a plan for the session but gives me the space to talk and vent as well when I need to. It’s a great balance and has been a huge part of my growth this year. Thank you Helon!
