Getting to know Hillary Ali

Hello! Are you feeling unheard, alone, or uncertain of your next steps? I know how you feel. For a while, I felt the same. Although I did not always have access to professional support, these feelings motivated me to become a therapist after studying psychology and social work. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from West Chester University, which has equipped me to support a diverse range of clients. I have had the pleasure of supporting individuals from various walks of life: new parents in transition, young adults finding their identity, women of color experiencing racial issues, and those struggling with grief to name a few. We all need to feel understood and represented. I will support you on your journey to find your voice, advocate for yourself, and heal from life’s challenges. Life feels less scary when you have someone in your corner. Seeking therapy is a brave step and an opportunity to feel seen, heard, less alone, and hopeful about what lies ahead. I would be honored to be in your corner. Let’s work together to help you recover from life’s challenges and reach your highest potential!

What should a new client know about working with you?

You are the center of each therapy session. I want to hear your stories and feelings that have led you here. Some sessions may feel emotional while other sessions may feel relaxing or even educational. Either way, growth will occur throughout your therapy journey. I am the professional, but you are the expert in your lived experiences, so collaboration is key. We will work together to help you identify and engage in practical steps to achieve your goals. I will do my best to guide you in healthier decision making and coping skills that lead to your desired outcomes.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

First, we will identify the circumstances that led you to take your first step of seeking therapy. Next, we will discuss what you would like to gain from it. We will discuss goals and action steps to include in your treatment plan that will guide your therapy sessions. Of course life happens, so when other topics arise, we will navigate them as well. Education is key, so we will build your awareness of what you are facing and discuss effective approaches to use. Throughout your therapy journey, we will identify triggers that lead to tough feelings, thoughts, and unwanted behaviors. We will work together to change the behaviors that have negatively affected you through treatment work, healthier coping skills, and self-exploration. Most importantly, we will move at a pace that keeps you feeling safe in your journey.

Therapist was on time and made for an easy conversation. It was nice for her to read over my forms instead of me having to say it all out loud, it was just a quick refresher and the conversation flowed very easily.
