Psychotherapist
206 N 4th St, #14, Wilmington, NC
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in Perinatal mental health, trauma, and anxiety. I am passionate about working with individuals working through the decision of whether or not to have children, all the way through the conception, pregnancy, and postpartum journey. I understand the difficulty that struggling to conceive can have on a relationship, and enjoy working with these folks as they navigate fertility treatments. I know first hand that pregnancy and preparing for birth can be all consuming, whether it is your first time or fifth time. Being a support and a place to help prep, work through anxieties, and heal past trauma that may be impacting the current pregnancy is my sweet spot in therapy. I have worked with many individuals who were fearful of giving birth or having hard conversations with their partner about expectations for postpartum; However, once they worked through these fears, they found that it made a huge impact on their birthing journey. I also have extensive experience working with those experiencing anxiety due to life stressors, adjustments, and family dynamics. We often write off the anxiety felt as "normal," though eventually these thoughts and worries become too much to handle alone. Please know that reaching out for help is not weak, and you do not have to do this alone. I am a trained Brainspotting therapist and strongly believe in the healing power of trauma symptoms through this modality. If you have tried traditional talk therapy in the past and found that it eventually become unhelpful, somatic experiencing may be for you. I would be happy to provide a consultation free of charge to discuss what this process looks like and how it could help you find healing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe that therapy should be effective and productive, while also being human. I use humor, appropriate self-disclosure, and connection as an integral part of the therapy process. I do not believe in forcing someone to "go" somewhere they are not ready, but I also appreciate gently prodding and challenging in order to achieve the progress that clients are looking for. If something is not working, we'll reassess and change course. I know that the same thing does not work for everyone.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe each session is a continuation of the last. I make it a point to follow up on stressors, topics discussed, and goals set in order to maintain accountability and movement. I love goal oriented sessions, but also understand that sometimes a new situation has come up, and we may need to shift course for the moment. I am passionate about letting the client lead the conversation towards what is important to them.
