Psychotherapist
550 S Watters Rd, Allen, TX
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 16 years of experience. I have worked with people of all ages, ranging from children to adults, in both inpatient and outpatient mental health programs. Growing up in a small town in Southern California, I always knew I wanted to help people. I moved to Texas to obtain my undergraduate degree in Therapeutic Recreation at Southwest Texas State University. Upon graduation from Southwest Texas State, I moved back to California to help a sick family member while pursuing a career in mental health. It was during this work in outpatient mental health programs I was called to become a Social Worker and pursued my MSW at San Jose State University. I have helped people who have dealt with depression, suicidal thoughts, bipolar disorder, anxiety, trauma and many life stressors such job loss, parenting issues, women’s health issues, bereavement, medical conditions, and life transitions. I have also worked with people recovering from a multitude of advance neurological conditions including traumatic brain injury and stroke. The most rewarding part is helping people learn how to cope, transition into new roles, and find their new purpose/normal. I feel grateful being able to witness the resilient human spirit when faced with life challenges. My therapeutic approaches include CBT, DBT, Systems Theory, and Attachment-based therapy with a focus on strengths perspective. I like to use expressive art modalities when people feel like they can’t move forward or develop an increased sense of self-awareness. My belief is that using the arts can tap into the parts of us that have been suppressed, and that people change most when they are being open and compassionate toward themselves. Based on my professional and personal experience, I can help you tune into your strengths to face the challenges life throws at you.
