Getting to know Hope Ansanelli

About Amityville Psychotherapy At Amityville Psychotherapy Mental Health Counseling PLLC, we view therapy as a collaborative, deeply human process rooted in relationship and understanding. Our practice is guided by a psychodynamic and attachment-focused approach, helping clients explore how early experiences, family dynamics, and relational patterns shape their present thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. We believe that meaningful change happens when people feel truly seen, heard, and understood. In a warm and non-judgmental space, our clinicians help clients gently uncover the origins of anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, and self-defeating patterns. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we work to understand the deeper emotional narratives that influence how you connect with yourself and others. Many of our clients come to therapy feeling stuck—repeating the same conflicts, carrying unresolved grief, or struggling to feel secure in relationships. Through an attachment-informed lens, we help you build greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, and healthier ways of relating. We honor the complexity of your story and move at a pace that feels safe and supportive. Led by Clinical Director Hope Ansanelli, LMHC, our team integrates psychodynamic insight with relational and experiential techniques to create therapy that is thoughtful, personalized, and growth-oriented. We work with individuals, couples, and families facing concerns such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma, and relationship difficulties. We offer both in-person and telehealth sessions and strive to make therapy accessible by accepting a variety of insurance plans. Above all, we are committed to creating a space where you can show up authentically, explore openly, and move toward deeper connection—with yourself and with others. At Amityville Psychotherapy, healing begins with understanding—and understanding begins with relationship.

What should a new client know about working with you?

What Clients Should Know About Working With Us At Amityville Psychotherapy, we want clients to feel informed and comfortable from the very beginning. Here are a few important things to know about our approach and what you can expect: Therapy Is Collaborative We believe therapy works best when it feels like a partnership. You are the expert on your life; we help guide the process with curiosity, insight, and professional support. Our Work Is Psychodynamic and Attachment-Focused Rather than only addressing surface-level symptoms, we help you explore the deeper patterns and experiences that shape how you feel and relate to others. Understanding your history and relationships allows for more meaningful, lasting change. The Relationship Matters We place strong emphasis on building a trusting, authentic connection between client and therapist. Feeling safe, understood, and respected is central to the work we do together. Change Takes Time—and That’s Okay Growth is not linear. We move at your pace and honor that therapy is a process, not a quick fix. You Don’t Need to Have It All Figured Out You don’t need the “perfect words” or a clear plan to begin. Showing up as you are is enough. Sessions Are Personalized to You Every client is different. We tailor treatment to your needs, personality, and goals rather than using a one-size-fits-all model. We Welcome Difficult Conversations Big emotions, complicated relationships, and uncomfortable topics are all welcome here. Nothing is “too much” for the therapy room. Practical Details Matter Too We offer both in-person and telehealth appointments and work with a range of insurance plans to make therapy as accessible as possible. Our Goal Is Real-Life Change Therapy isn’t just about insight—it’s about helping you feel more secure, confident, and connected in your everyday life and relationships.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our sessions are designed to feel conversational, reflective, and supportive rather than rigid or clinical. Each meeting is a space for you to slow down, explore your thoughts and feelings, and better understand what is happening beneath the surface of your day-to-day experiences. The First Session The initial appointment is focused on getting to know you. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, your personal history, relationships, and any current concerns. This is not a formal interview—it’s a collaborative conversation that helps us understand your goals and begin forming a therapeutic connection. Ongoing Sessions In regular sessions, you are invited to talk about whatever feels most important that day—relationships, stressors, memories, emotions, or patterns you’ve noticed in yourself. We listen closely for recurring themes and help you make connections between past experiences and present challenges. Rather than following a strict agenda, we allow the session to unfold naturally. Our clinicians may reflect back what they’re hearing, ask thoughtful questions, or gently highlight patterns that you may not have seen before. This process helps deepen self-awareness and supports meaningful emotional growth. Attachment and Relationship Focus Because our work is psychodynamic and attachment-informed, we pay close attention to how you experience relationships—including the therapeutic relationship itself. Exploring how you relate to others often becomes a powerful pathway to healing. Practical and Supportive While insight is a major part of therapy, sessions can also include coping strategies, emotional regulation tools, and support around current life stressors when needed. The approach is always tailored to you. Flexible Format Sessions are typically 53 minutes and are offered both in person and via secure telehealth. Frequency of sessions is determined together based on your needs and goals.

Saved my marriage!
I never went to therapy because I didn’t think talking about what happened in my life would help. Working with the therapists at Amityville psychotherapy made me realize that sharing my problems with a professional cut them in half. I’m doing much better now because of it. I wish I hadn’t have waited so long.
