Getting to know Hye-Ri Kim
I am a licensed clinical social worker with a background in the U.S., Japan, and Europe. I provide psychotherapy for adults who have trouble coping after traumatic events, including interpersonal violence and abuse, relationship issues and life transitions. I take an intersectional approach in my work that takes the impact of oppressive systems and structural inequities into account when exploring inter-and intrapersonal issues with clients. I believe that understanding historical and intergenerational roots of trauma as well as resilience are integral components in healing and growth. I draw from relational, insight-oriented, cognitive, and trauma-focused approaches and am committed to creating a safe, supportive, and collaborative environment.
I provide psychotherapy in English, Japanese and German and am versed in working with individuals who are adjusting to cultural norms in the US or facing challenges unique to interracial and intercultural couples and step/blended families.
In addition to my therapeutic work with clients, I supervise clinical social workers and provide consultation and training to mental health professionals on trauma and anti-oppressive practice. I also teach bachelor’s and master’s level courses on oppression, trauma, and psychology. I received my masters in social work from New York University.
