More about Ilona Korsunsky, LCSW
Ilona Korsunsky is a Licensed Clinical Social worker and practices in Florida. Ilona earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology and Sociology at the Rutgers University of New Jersey. She went on to work in Child Welfare and Protection for many years, serving and supporting the most vulnerable children and families in South Florida who have faced a multitude of traumatic events, which often reinforced generational trauma. Ilona’s extensive background and training in the Trauma-Informed approach have allowed her to work closely with these families empathetically and compassionately to strengthen family units, promote empowerment of families, increase resilience, and break the cycle of generational trauma.
Ilona’s passion for helping others and her considerable knowledge of trauma have allowed her to work in many settings with diverse populations. She initially returned to her first love and dedicated herself to working with children and families, where she was responsible for providing support and aid in clinical assessment during investigations, providing therapeutic services to children at the time of removal for guardians, provide trauma-focused interventions while ensuring a child feels safe, and supporting the parent/guardian with the transition.
Ilona developed a desire to expand and explore work with others. Ilona has provided mental health treatment to LGBTQ youth at risk for homelessness at a transitional facility.
Given Ilona’s history, she has developed solid cultural competence, can build alliances, rapport, and trust exhibits self-awareness and patience, and always takes a non-judgmental, open-minded, empathetic stance.
