Dr. Ines Castanos, PhD

Psychotherapist
8724 Mountain Crest Dr, Austin, TX
Dr. Carolina Castaños, PhD, LMFT, is a licensed marriage and family therapist and founder of ReConnect – Integrative Center for Mental Health. With more than 30 years of clinical experience, she helps individuals and couples navigate anxiety, chronic stress, trauma, relationship challenges, burnout, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm. What distinguishes Dr. Castaños' approach is the integration of psychotherapy with neuroscience-based assessment. While most therapists rely primarily on conversation and observation, Dr. Castaños also utilizes objective measures of brain and nervous system functioning to gain a deeper understanding of the factors contributing to a client's challenges. This allows treatment to be guided by a more comprehensive picture of the individual rather than symptoms alone. At ReConnect, treatment is personalized and integrative. Dr. Castaños recognizes that emotional wellbeing is influenced by multiple interconnected factors, including brain function, nervous system regulation, relationships, life experiences, stress, and overall health. Rather than applying a standard protocol, she develops individualized treatment plans designed around each client's unique needs, strengths, and goals. Many of the individuals she works with are high-achieving professionals, entrepreneurs, caregivers, and couples who feel stuck despite their efforts to improve their wellbeing. Her goal is not only to help clients reduce symptoms, but to better understand themselves, strengthen resilience, improve relationships, and create meaningful, lasting change. Dr. Castaños provides a warm, collaborative, and compassionate environment where clients feel understood, supported, and empowered throughout the therapeutic process.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Many of my clients come to me after trying traditional approaches that provided some relief but did not fully address the complexity of what they were experiencing. One of the things that makes my approach different is that I look beyond symptoms to understand the whole person. I consider how emotional experiences, relationships, brain function, nervous system regulation, lifestyle, and overall health may be contributing to a person's challenges. At ReConnect, we integrate psychotherapy, neuroscience, brain-based assessment, somatic approaches, nervous system regulation, and nutritional and wellness factors when appropriate. Because every person is unique, treatment is individualized and tailored to your specific needs, strengths, and goals. My approach is warm, collaborative, and experiential. While insight is important, I believe meaningful change happens through experience, practice, and integration. I strive for each session to provide something of high value a new perspective, a practical tool, a deeper understanding. Every time you leave, you are a step closer toward your goals. ReConnect was created to be more than a clinical office. It is a place where people can slow down, feel cared for, and experience genuine connection. Clients often tell us they feel welcomed, seen, and understood from the moment they walk through the door. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, chronic stress, trauma, burnout, relationship difficulties, or a major life transition, my goal is to help you create lasting change and build a life that feels more connected, balanced, and fulfilling.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process depends on each client's needs and goals. For clients seeking psychotherapy, treatment begins with developing a deep understanding of what is contributing to their challenges. Together, we create a clear direction for our work and a personalized plan for growth and healing. Sessions are active, collaborative, and experiential. In addition to gaining insight, clients learn practical skills for relating differently to their thoughts, emotions, relationships, and life experiences. My goal is for each session to provide something meaningful that helps move you one step closer to your goals. For clients participating in ReConnect's integrative programs, the process begins with a comprehensive assessment that may include brain-based assessments, neurocognitive testing, and evaluations of lifestyle, stress, nutrition, and overall wellbeing. Using this information, we develop an individualized plan designed around the unique needs of each person. Depending on your goals, your plan may incorporate psychotherapy, neuromodulation, nervous system regulation, mindfulness practices, breathwork, nutritional support, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, meditation, somatic therapies, and other integrative approaches. Throughout the process, we focus not only on reducing symptoms, but on creating meaningful and lasting change in the way you think, feel, relate, and live.
