Inness Pryor, LMHC

Psychotherapist
WA
INNESS PRYOR LMHC LPC (she/her) It can be a process to find a therapist who feels like a good match for you. Let me tell you a little bit about myself, and hopefully that will help! ? My first name rhymes with "Guinness," if you were wondering. I identify as a White, middle class, queer, able-bodied cisgender woman, among other things. I recognize that many of my identities afford me certain privileges; I strive to stay aware of these, and to work with each client from a culturally humble perspective. I have a background in sex education. I try to practice body acceptance or neutrality most days. As a former English major, I'm fond of all kinds of meaning making; sometimes I write poetry that my sister later uses to make fun of me. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and I live here with my family, two dogs, and a cat. (I vacuum a lot. It's never enough.) In my free time, you'll find me creating playlists; taking long road trips; singing with friends, sometimes in public; browsing antique malls and movie rental stores; and carefully organizing my bookshelves, usually when I'm supposed to be doing something else. ? I received a Master's of Education in Community Counseling from Seattle University in 2017, followed by additional coursework in a variety of therapeutic subjects. I am grateful for the education I received from clients at Seattle Counseling Service, Youth Eastside Services, and Pathlight Mood & Anxiety Center, prior to establishing my private practice in 2021. I am licensed in Oregon and Washington.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am trained in CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Exposure + Response Prevention (ERP), and EMDR. First and foremost, I am a client-centered therapist, which means that I draw on various therapy styles and skills flexibly, in order to best serve your individual needs. I will always endeavor to hold compassionate, non-judgmental space for you, while simultaneously challenging you in service of your goals. Before your first appointment, we’ll have a free, 15-minute phone call to determine if working together feels like a good fit. If so, we'll schedule an intake session, during which I will ask you a variety of questions to gather information on you and your background. From there, we will set a weekly or biweekly schedule for our sessions together, met via telehealth. I see clients between 12 PM and 6 PM, Monday through Thursday. Note that I am licensed in Oregon and Washington states and as such, only able to see clients who are physically located in Oregon or Washington at the time of each session.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I view therapy as a collaborative experience - it's an expedition of discovery, with you as the leader and navigator. I'm like the tracker or the interpreter - my role is to offer space for you to blaze the trail, and to help make sense of what we discover together. The outcome of treatment depends largely on your willingness to engage in this work - which will sometimes require you to tolerate significant discomfort. There are no miracle cures. I cannot promise that your behavior or circumstances will change. I can promise to support you and do my very best to understand you and the patterns that show up in your life, as well as to help you clarify the path forward. ? I am committed to being an anti-racist therapist, and to the work of decolonizing my practice, which I recognize as lifelong pursuits, rather than goals to be checked off. I regard myself as a perpetual student, always learning - and bound to make mistakes at times. When that happens, I invite you to engage in a process of repair with me. I recognize the emotional labor involved in the repair process, and I want to assure you of two things: 1. To the best of my ability, I will take on the work of offering space for repair so you don't have to; and 2. It will not affect my regard for you whether or not you want to engage in this process. You always have a choice.

More information on payments and coverage

Sessions typically run for 50-55 minutes. My rate is $150 per individual session, $200 for couples and families (+$50 for each additional person; e.g., a session with three clients would cost $250). For Washington state clients seeking individual therapy, I am paneled with United Healthcare, Aetna, Oxford, and Oscar Health through Headway. If you are seeking marriage or family therapy; an Oregon resident; or have another kind of insurance, sessions are paid out of pocket. For clients paying out of pocket, I accept credit cards, which are billed automatically after each session. I partner with Mentaya to help out of pocket clients get reimbursed; if that's something that interests you, I am happy to provide more information. As your therapist, I would not benefit from your use of Mentaya - it's entirely for you and entirely optional.
