Getting to know Ira Barouch

In my 30 years of practice, I’ve successfully treated men and the unique concerns that bring them into therapy. These include career insecurity, burnout, transitions; relationship problems, mid-life and aging issues, and the entire gamut of addictive behaviors (sex, porn, gambling, substances, etc.). Symptoms most often associated with these life problems include depression, anxiety, avoidance, isolation, and sexual dysfunction. Because men aren’t always comfortable exposing their vulnerabilities, they often need encouragement to seek therapy. I hold a Master’s in Psychology from The New School, which has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support men through these challenges effectively.

What should a new client know about working with you?

We all know that therapy is hard work. Through experience, I've learned how to carefully delve beneath typical male-oriented defensive styles by fostering collaboration in identifying traumatic experiences and attachments, eliminating self-sabotaging patterns, and enabling my patients to eventually achieve a more authentic, dynamic, masculine self. I offer a 20 minute consultation free of charge to give my new patients the opportunity to determine whether I'd be a good therapeutic match for them. Currently I work with many patients from Westchester County where I've lived for 30 years.
