Dr. Jackie Lee, PhD

Psychotherapist
1000 10th Ave, New York, NY
I’m a psychologist currently accepting new patients, and I genuinely enjoy getting to know the people I work with. Therapy is obviously a place to talk about difficult things, but I don’t think it has to feel cold, overly formal, or like you’re sitting across from someone reading from a textbook. I work with depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, trauma, life transitions, and general adjustment difficulties, and I have a particular interest in LGBTQ+ care. I also speak Korean fluently. My approach is often CBT-oriented, but I’m not particularly rigid about it. I like figuring out what works for the individual person sitting in front of me. Sometimes that means structured CBT work and practical strategies; sometimes it means slowing down and really exploring what’s underneath something. I’m happy to draw from different approaches and adjust the structure of therapy as we go. I care a lot about the relationship we build in therapy. I want you to feel that you can actually talk to me—not just present the most polished version of yourself and report back on how your week went. I value honesty, warmth, humor, and being able to have a real conversation, including when the subject matter is difficult. I’m also a pretty creative person, and I enjoy when that part of me gets to show up in my work. Art, music, writing, fashion, performance, and other creative interests can all become meaningful ways of understanding ourselves. Therapy doesn’t always have to happen entirely through clinical language. I’ll take your problems seriously, but I’ll also see you as a whole person outside of those problems. I’m not interested in telling you who you should be or making decisions for you. I’m interested in helping you understand yourself, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and feel more capable of moving through it. And honestly, you don’t need to come into the first session with a perfectly organized explanation of why you’re there. We can figure that part out together
