Psychotherapist

I genuinely care about the people I work with — that's not something I take lightly. Counseling is an incredibly personal thing, and I don't take it for granted that you're trusting me with the hard stuff. I also work with couples. Relationships are some of the most meaningful — and most challenging — parts of life. Whether you're navigating conflict, rebuilding trust, or just feeling disconnected from each other, I'd love to help you find your way back. You don't have to be on the verge of a breakup to benefit from couples work. Sometimes you just need a safe space to finally say the things that keep getting lost in translation. Whether I'm working with an individual or a couple, my goal is the same: that you leave our time together feeling more like yourself, more connected, and more capable of the life you actually want.

Getting to know Jacob Somers

What should a new client know about working with you?

When you work with me, you can expect to feel safe — really safe. No judgment, no pressure, no feeling like you have to have it all figured out before you walk in. You just have to show up. I'll never push you faster than you're ready to go. We move at your pace, full stop. And while I do draw from research-backed approaches — things like CBT and trauma-informed care — you'll never feel like you're being run through a clinical checklist. Everything we do is shaped around you and what actually makes sense for your life. Think of it less like "going to therapy" and more like finally having someone genuinely in your corner.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We'll start by just getting to know each other. That first session is really about me understanding your story — where you've been, what's feeling hard right now, and what you're hoping life looks like on the other side of this. From there, we build a plan together. It's yours as much as it is mine. After that, sessions have a rhythm — but they're never cookie-cutter. Some days we'll be working through something specific. Other days it might feel more like checking in, celebrating a small win, or just processing whatever the week threw at you. We'll practice new skills, notice patterns, and set little goals to carry into your everyday life. And as you grow, the plan grows with you. Nothing is set in stone. We'll keep checking in on what's working, what isn't, and where you want to go next.
