Psychotherapist
142 N Allen St, Ste C, Albany, NY
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who works with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma-related concerns, ADHD, anger, relationship difficulties, identity concerns, and major life transitions. I understand that beginning therapy can feel unfamiliar or overwhelming, and I aim to provide a welcoming, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment where clients can feel heard and supported. My therapeutic style is collaborative, culturally responsive, and goal-oriented. I integrate evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed care, while adapting treatment to each client’s individual needs, strengths, values, and lived experiences. In our work together, we will explore the patterns contributing to your current concerns, identify practical strategies for managing difficult emotions and situations, and develop skills that support meaningful and sustainable change. I believe therapy should provide both a space for reflection and clear tools that clients can apply in their everyday lives. My goal is to help clients deepen their self-understanding, strengthen their coping and communication skills, and feel more confident navigating life’s challenges.

Getting to know Jalen Parson

What should a new client know about working with you?

My goal is to create a supportive, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where people can feel comfortable discussing their concerns openly. My approach is practical, compassionate, and tailored to each client’s individual needs, experiences, and goals. I work with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma-related concerns, ADHD, anger, relationship difficulties, identity concerns, and major life transitions. I draw from evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed care. Clients can expect me to be engaged, honest, and active throughout the therapeutic process. Together, we will identify patterns that may be contributing to distress, develop effective coping and communication skills, and work toward meaningful, sustainable change. I also recognize the importance of culture, identity, family, and lived experience and incorporate these factors into treatment. Therapy is not about having all the answers immediately. It is a collaborative process of building insight, strengthening skills, and helping you feel more confident navigating challenges in your daily life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with taking time to understand what brings you to therapy, the concerns affecting you most, and what you hope to gain from treatment. During the first few sessions, we will discuss your history, current symptoms, strengths, support system, and any important cultural, family, or life experiences that may shape your needs. Together, we will identify clear and realistic treatment goals and develop a plan that feels relevant to your daily life. I use a collaborative and structured approach, incorporating various evidence-based techniques. Sessions may include exploring patterns in thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships; learning practical coping and communication skills; and identifying strategies to manage symptoms more effectively. When appropriate, I may also suggest exercises or skills to practice between sessions. Throughout treatment, we will regularly review your progress and make adjustments based on what is or is not working. My goal is to provide a supportive space while also helping you build insight, strengthen practical skills, and create lasting changes that extend beyond the therapy room.
