Jamal Fletcher, LCSW

Psychotherapist
VA
Congrats on taking the first step in initiating therapy. It may not always be easy, but taking time for your well-being is always worth it. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a Master’s in Social Work from Simmons College and 12 years of experience in the mental health field. I've worked with many combat Veterans and survivors of military sexual trauma from diverse sociocultural backgrounds. I also have experience helping older adults, couples, and those living with severe mental illness. My approach I specialize in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Trauma-Informed Care. I use a client-centered empowerment approach, supporting clients in identifying their values, strengths, needs, and resources. I prioritize keeping clients informed about the therapeutic process while being flexible and adaptable to their changing clinical needs. My focus Much of my experience comes from working with adult trauma survivors, including combat Veterans and survivors of military sexual trauma (MST). Others have experienced trauma unrelated to military service, such as trauma during childhood and adolescence, intimate partner violence, and compound grief. These experiences can result in PTSD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Prolonged Grief Disorder, and Adjustment Disorder. My communication style It's important that clients feel safe showing up as their authentic selves. I create a non-judgmental therapeutic environment and practice cultural humility by respecting clients' cultural values, beliefs, and experiences. I practice active listening to ensure clients' thoughts, feelings, and experiences are understood and their emotions validated. I ask open-ended questions to help identify feelings and core beliefs driving clients' thoughts and behaviors.
