Getting to know James Bryant

I am a clinical therapist trained at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, where I earned my Master's in Counseling. I am also a combat veteran and have experience serving in ministry abroad. Before becoming a therapist, I had a prior career working about 12 years overseas. I have successfully worked with adults from many backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and religious faiths. My experience includes supporting clients struggling with a wide variety of mental health conditions and stressors, including but not limited to trauma, depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Because of my experience prior to becoming a therapist, I approach therapy with a practical and evidence based focus. I am trained in many evidence based clinical skills such as EMDR, CBT, DBT, and EFT to name a few. My ministry experience and training allows me to integrate faith easily into therapy whenever clients believe it will be most beneficial. My goal is for each client to feel heard, understood, and encouraged. Life is very much a contact sport, in that every person gets hit. Sometimes life hits very hard. This trauma effects us on a very primal level and takes a realistic practical approach to effectively move forward in a healthy way.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first meeting together we will have a brief introduction with each other and then discuss the specifics that brought you to counseling. From there I will be working with you to develop a personalized plan to help you achieve your therapy goals. I utilize evidence based therapy models as mentioned above. Having had an almost 20 year career prior to becoming a therapist, I believe I bring a practical and goal orientated approach to therapy. I understand navigating the real world, balancing career and life, and the every day grind that life throws at us.
