“I've been seeing Jim for over 3 years. He is easy to talk with and listens to me. There have been several occasions when I didn't think there were things that needed attention in my life. Then, after I shared, he addressed something I said and I'm like, "Oh. Ok. I see." I have walked away from each session with a least one golden nugget to enhance my life. I've taken notes from each session. I need to review them, for there truly are valuable pieces of information that I need to recall and put into practice. I've seen other professional therapists in the past. However, Jim has a way to help me understand more clearly without being judgmental or impatient. He is also a warm, caring, genuine person whom you could imagine sitting by a fireplace drinking a hot cocao with and chatting about a recent book you read.”

Getting to know James Falduti

After 40 years of counseling others, first as a pastoral minister and then as a psychotherapist, I've learned that empathic listening and non-judgmental support are key to helping and healing. Since earning my Master’s in Social Work from the University at Albany in 2001, I have treated patients with mental illness by working closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, and other colleagues. I not only have direct practice experience but have also provided clinical supervision to other therapists and taught clinical social work at three different universities. I specialize in mood disorders, trauma recovery, and working with older adults. Additionally, I am skilled at integrating your ethical values and spiritual beliefs, if you wish, into our therapeutic work. I currently conduct sessions virtually at my private practice. Using evidence-based psychotherapy techniques, I tailor each patient’s treatment to suit their needs and goals. I carefully assess each case, identify specific focal points, and develop personalized treatment plans accordingly. I am also a dedicated member of the National Association of Social Workers.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is client-centered and non-pathologizing. I believe that you have the solutions and resources you need to heal inside your Self. After we explore your needs, we will may use a variety of techniques: from brief solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral therapies to more psychodynamic approaches such as parts theory and ego psychology.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Whether you need treatment for a mental illness or practical tools to improve your life and relationships, I will patiently listen and compassionately guide you. After doing a thorough assessment with you, I will help you learn practical tools to improve confidence, reduce anxiety, and function more effectively. If you need more in-depth therapy to make progress, I will carefully explore what is blocking your progress and encourage you to overcome those barriers so that you may be free of any fear or shame and be empowered to live your life more fully and enjoyably.

Jim has skillfully, compassionately, and positively talked with my 92 year-old, dementia diagnosed mom for several months. I found him to be a gifted, insightful counselor that helped turn my mom‘s frown upside down by the end of the hour. He has also guided me through the peaks and valleys of being a caregiver for a loved one with Alzheimer’s. He’s been a wonderful gift to our family.
Jim F is and has been my rock for the last four years in my ever-changing life. He is professional and compassionate. I always feel lighter after a session and would recommend him to everyone!
Jim’s style will put you at ease right away. His background gives him great insight on so many topics. He is non judgmental and kind, but will only tell you the truth. If something is bothering you, I would highly recommend Jim. He will help you find the answers you seek. Don’t hold back: tell him any and every thing on your mind. You will be so glad you did.
I have been seeing Jim Falduti for therapy for a few years. He is no ordinary therapist. He is always up-to-date on the latest research and treatment options. He is very kind and patient, and has a wealth of information way beyond the scope of what I would expect from an average therapist. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking therapy.
