Psychotherapist

Hi there, I'm James! Hello, I'm James Harris. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor. I earned my Master's in Counseling from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. I have experience in a variety of treatment settings, including inpatient psychiatric settings with both children and adults, outpatient school-based settings, as well as outpatient mental health and drug and alcohol abuse treatment settings. My approach Person-centered therapy is the foundation of all my treatment. I believe you are the expert on you, and that for personal growth to occur, a strong therapeutic relationship must be established. From there, I mainly use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. My focus I've worked with all populations, from children to the elderly. I feel comfortable treating almost any condition but will refer out any clients with a specific condition I do not feel adequately trained to treat. My communication style I work to foster an environment of openness and trust to facilitate communication. My journey to mental healthcare My motivation stems from witnessing the horrible effects drug and alcohol abuse can have on families and those struggling with addictions. I have also had several people close to me commit suicide, which motivated me to work for nearly four years as a mental health tech in suicide treatment centers before becoming a licensed provider. My goals for you We first work to clarify the underlying problems, then develop a plan with goals and objectives to resolve the identified issues. My first session with you During the first session, we will perform a thorough assessment to get a picture of your life, circumstances, and the specific problems you're dealing with. I will also share about myself and how treatment will proceed. We will discuss confidentiality, informed consent, and your expectations as a client.
