Getting to know James Hunter

My name is James Hunter, MS, LPC, LCDC. I am 52 years old and have 25 years of experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas. I earned my Master's in Counseling from Texas A&M University. I have worked in various levels of care, including intensive inpatient, supported residential treatment programs, and outpatient settings, treating a wide range of mental health symptoms and behaviors. I specialize in Cognitive and Behavioral Psychotherapies, Reality Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Existential approaches, Substance Use Disorders/Addiction counseling, and other modalities tailored to your needs. My graduate work was in both clinical psychology and counseling. I have worked with and treated diverse populations representing many cultures. I have experience addressing Mood Disorders such as depression and anxiety disorders using evidence-based treatment modalities. Additionally, I treat behavioral problems and maladaptive behaviors that arise from unhealthy coping mechanisms, teaching clients healthier replacement behaviors and coping skills. My approach is genuine, direct, and honest. While I may not always tell you “what you want to hear,” I provide feedback based on what is best to hear to help improve your insight into your problems. My counseling style may not be for everyone. If you are ready to make changes and seek honesty, logic, and a solution-focused approach, then I may be a good fit for you. A little about my personal life: I practice physical fitness as part of my overall wellness and self-care. I believe in a total wellness approach to treating mental health disorders and life issues that considers the larger picture of health-mental, emotional, physical, social, relational, spiritual, environmental, and occupational or sense of purpose. I understand that adopting a new lifestyle and healthier habits can present challenges and often may seem difficult.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Insight versus mere Awareness! - Solution Focused! - When you come to me, I will help you with gaining insight into your concerns and issues along with honest, real, and logical solutions and interventions. You will feel seen, heard, and understood.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

I love the way he is because he calls you on your b******* and he helps you get down to what needs to be fixed even though it's not a quick fix it's going to take time but he works with you and he's always there you can message him at any time and he'll answer as soon as he gets it if not he'll get to it and you'll get a response sooner or later I love him as a therapist and I enjoy him being my therapist he has helped me through a lot of things especially my anger control and helping me put up boundaries that I met for new I needed it
James is great at what he does. No bs just gets straight to work. He listen s and offers solutions. He gives examples and points out things from multiple perspectives. He practices a holistically approach. Teaching us not only about the mental aspect but the physical as well. He has encouraged us to live healthier physically and mentally.
James is great at tackling the issue head on and even giving a name to the problem or habit. Which is helpful to give perspective to the situation.
James is amazing. Open, direct, and wicked smart. He instantly in a couple sessions identified near 45 years of baggage and trauma then have me a blueprint on how to address all those toxic behaviors in my life.
James is also open minded.
