Getting to know Jamie Simkins

Therapy for Stepmoms, Dads, and Couples in blended families. I’m a blended family expert who works with adults navigating the real stress of blended family life, divorce, co-parenting conflict, and relational overwhelm. Many clients come in feeling tired of “just getting through,” unsure how to handle ongoing conflict with an ex, or exhausted by stepfamily tension that never seems to let up. My approach is warm, direct, and practical—I help people get clear about what’s really going on, build tools that actually work in their day-to-day life, and feel more grounded, confident, and in charge of their emotions. My goal is to give you support that feels thoughtful, tailored, and genuinely helpful for you - and for your family.

What should a new client know about working with you?

We may be a fit to work together if: - You thrive when sessions are collaborative and goal-oriented. My approach is to create a partnership with you, where we’ll work together to identify your needs and make progress toward the goals that you set for yourself. - You are open to "homework" i.e. actively reflecting between sessions on what came up for your during your last session and implementing some of the techniques you learned.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first appointment together will include a review of your history, your primary concerns, and what brings you to therapy at this time. We’ll talk about your goals for therapy, which will be reviewed regularly throughout treatment. We will review informed consent, including your rights to confidentiality, and I will answer any initial questions you may have. Ongoing therapy sessions will be a unique experience tailored to your needs and the goals we identified together during your first session. Our sessions will likely include a blend of talk therapy (like what you see on TV), learning and practicing new skills, and mindfulness/body-based (somatic) work.

I saw Jamie for 4 years and I can’t say enough wonderful things. the only reason I am no longer a patient is because I moved. I am the type of person that can discuss my trauma and make it sound like I’m talking about the weather And avoid feeling my feelings. Jamie has this amazing ability and tools to help me connect to my most authentic self to be able to truly process the issues in order to heal. she is a gentle and understanding soul that will help you do the work you need :)
I've been working with Jamie for one year now and have had nothing but positive experiences since our initial meeting. Jamie meets her clients with compassion and insight, all while allowing space for her clients to do the emotional work with her support.
Jamie literally help me to save my own life. I feel so lucky to have found her, after having many encounters with therapists that I didn't connect with or trust for years previous. Over the course of 2+ years we met regularly for EMDR sessions that profoundly helped heal and process my experiences of very heavy depression, anxiety, trauma and relationship/intimacy pain. I felt like she "got me" and I felt safe and held by her every time. I'm tearing up as I write this because I honestly don't know where I'd be had I not found her as my therapist. I hope others are able to receive the help, healing and growth I've experienced because of my work with her. I never thought I'd be where I am today. TRUST THE PROCESS and JUST KEEP GOING. You CAN heal!! Thank YOU Jamie!!!
Jamie is wonderful. During our time together I have gained the tools and perspective to take steps forward in my relationships to others and to myself. She is communicative, punctual and caring with the experience and insight to truly change someone's life. I can't recommend her highly enough.
Jamie is incredible! I sought her support for my long fertility journey and feel so fortunate to have found her. Every session she offers me new insights and greater clarity about my purpose and finding increased joy and balance. I highly recommend her!
I have only been seeing Jamie for a short while, but already feel that I have made a lot of progress due to her guidance and advice. Jamie is super sweet, such a great listener, and helps me view things from a different perspective. I would definitely recommend her!
