Jan Abbott, LPC

Psychotherapist
GA
Hello, I'm Jan. As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS) in the state of Georgia, I've dedicated over 13 years to practicing mental health therapy in the greater Atlanta area. My journey has taken me through various roles, including serving as the clinical director at several mental health clinics, where I provided both in-house and community therapy. I've also had the privilege of creating holistic health programs for medical doctors, ensuring that clients can heal their mind, body, and spirit comprehensively. For the past six years, I've been in private practice, working with clients from all walks of life. One of my greatest joys is helping children and teens, especially those who may be resistant or unaware of the changes they need. My approach is rooted in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy (SFT), and other effective modalities. This diverse toolkit has enabled me to achieve great success in guiding young clients towards positive change. My experience extends to working with children in home and foster care/adoption settings, where I've helped resolve various mental, behavioral, and life challenges. Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams—including doctors, lawyers, courts, DFCS community case managers, psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, and other community partners—has been a cornerstone of my practice. Together, we strive to meet the needs of children across their social settings. I pride myself on my ability to develop innovative plans and use a variety of therapy styles and resources to address the unique challenges faced by children and teens. Whether it's through individual sessions or working within a broader community context, my goal is to create ideal solutions for the therapeutic, community, and systemic issues that arise.
