ME
Welcome to taking your first step toward healing and wellness. I hope to provide a strength-based personalized approach to helping you navigate through life stressors, interpersonal relationship issues, prior hurts, trauma, worry, panic, or depression by utilizing a variety of therapeutic interventions. Asking for help isn't easy, but I hope to help you feel supported and validated through our time together. I look forward to meeting you. My approach The first session is typically an assessment where I gather information about your purpose for therapy. From there, mindfulness strategies are introduced to help reduce worry and anxiety as we discuss what values and goals are most important for you and identify steps on how to achieve your goals. My focus Have you been anxious about the world we live in? Panicked over work, college, family life? Sad over the loss of a relationship or feeling "stuck" in old patterns? Collaboratively, we will discover how you have arrived at this point in your life, and utilize your strengths that will help you overcome and succeed, and move beyond the struggles you are experiencing. My communication style I use supportive, empathetic communication to learn about your needs and goals in counseling. Listening quietly, offering supportive words, and encouragement are just a few techniques to hold space while you describe what brings you to counseling. We will identify any automatic negative thoughts that may be interfering with moving forward and learn how to change them, bringing about positive feelings and change. My journey to mental healthcare I began my undergraduate work focused on advocating for the needs of children who experienced grief and loss, trauma and abuse, which later transitioned into over twenty years of employment in the public and private sectors of adoption. My clinical work began fifteen years ago, helping families impacted by terminal illness as a hospice clinical social worker.
