Getting to know Janet Duffy

Janet Duffy is a top-rated licensed psychotherapist and founder of Suite Three Psychotherapy. She specializes in treating anxiety, panic attacks, self-esteem issues, trauma, OCD and personality disorders; Janet has advanced training to address complex relationship concerns, including narcissistic abuse, betrayal trauma, and high-conflict relationship dynamics. Her style is engaging, warm, curious, open, empathetic, direct, and empowering. Janet also earned a postgraduate Certificate in Personality Disorders through the International Society of Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (ISTFP), taught by Otto Kernberg, MD, focusing on phenomenology, characterology, psychodynamics, and evidence-based treatment options.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Janet provides depth-oriented, individualized psychotherapy for people seeking more than short-term symptom management. She believes the quality of the therapeutic relationship is central to successful treatment and takes care to ensure a thoughtful clinical match. Sessions are structured, focused, and designed to support both emotional safety and meaningful progress. Janet’s therapeutic orientation is integrative and strongly grounded in psychodynamic psychotherapy, drawing from elements of Transference Focused Psychotherapy (TFP), relational approaches, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She also incorporates Attachment Theory and Trauma-Informed approaches. When working with couples, Janet uses elements of Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method, tailoring her approach to best suit each individual or couple’s needs. Her patients report making significant progress, describing treatment as transformative and invaluable.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Janet's approach includes traditional psychodynamic psychotherapy and contemporary evidence-based treatment interventions. Her style is engaging, warm, curious, open, empathetic, collaborative, direct, and empowering. She believes you are your own expert. Janet will help you work through current challenges and address immediate issues, while leaving room for you to explore deeper feelings and unconscious drives which may be contributing to fears or unwanted patterns of behaviors. Janet will help you untangle and address underlying issues which may be contributing to relationship stress and symptoms of anxiety and/or depression. While grounded in the theoretical approaches mentioned above, Janet works from an eclectic orientation in order to provide each patient with a specialized treatment plan suited to their goals and needs. Her strong research background allows her to provide evidence-based psychotherapies along with a variety of therapeutic techniques that integrate elements of holistic health, healing, dream work, and wellness interventions when appropriate. Janet is an out-of-network provider but will be happy to provide an invoice for services and help you process your insurance reimbursement claims.

I’ve seen 4-5 different psychotherapists over the years and I’m so lucky to have finally found Janet! I have progressed so much since I began seeing her and have actually referred a bunch of friends over to the practice. Janet has helped me develop skills for everything from coping with anxiety and depression to overcoming panic attacks and agoraphobia. She uses many different techniques in her treatment and is extremely well informed in her work. I could not recommend Janet and Suite Three Psychotherapy enough!
