Getting to know Janet O'Hare

In my psychotherapy practice, I work with people of all ages and many backgrounds, with all kinds of goals and concerns. These often include: ? Addressing worries and stresses ? Navigating knotty problems in life ? Working on relationships ? Welcoming a new child into the family ? Dealing with a serious illness ? Handling a major career challenge ? Managing trauma-related issues I am especially interested in the zone where the waves of the soul crash on the rocks of the body. I have a great deal of experience with trauma of many types, in many degrees of severity. I have also worked extensively with, and have a special love for, new families, mothers, and childbearing. I am honored to be present at the end of life. I am a psychodynamic feminist and am deeply interested in history and in political and moral movements. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Columbia University and have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2004. She/her

What should a new client know about working with you?

Almost always, after a therapy session, one would like to feel heard, to feel supported, and to feel as if there is a plan. I am interested not so much in diagnostic labels as in whole, complex human beings, including their values and their loves. I grew into therapy via the rape crisis movement, and there learned to place great value on learning from the person who has asked me for help. Thousands of clients and much professional education later, I hope I have grown in wisdom, but this is always where it starts. It is very fulfilling to help someone work out their own way to navigate their journey.
