Psychotherapist

Hi there, I'm Janet! Hello! My name is Janet Shannon, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master’s in Counseling from California Southern University. I also hold a Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University. I am warm and empathic, and my approach is kindness. I really enjoy what I do, particularly working with grief, loss, and trauma. My approach My approach is eclectic, although I use CBT, REBT, and EMDR quite predominately. My focus I am open to working with most people. I especially enjoy working with those who are adopted or going through grief, loss, or trauma. However, I am comfortable supporting people with all kinds of issues. My communication style I am down to earth. I walk with you. I have been told I am easy to work with because I don’t use a lot of technical language, and I am straightforward with an easy gentleness. My journey to mental healthcare I love people! I have always been interested in the human psyche. As a kid, my mother had an extensive library, and I started reading her books. I particularly liked Carl Jung and Fritz Perls when I was around 11 or 12. I do this work because, as Benjamin Franklin said, “We must all hang together, or assuredly, we will all hang separately.” My goals for you I ask the client what their goals are, and then we work on those goals one step at a time. My first session with you The first session is busy! Lots of information gathering and identifying goals for treatment. I try to make it as painless as possible, but it’s a lot.
