Janice March, LCSW

Psychotherapist
IL
I have 19 years of experience working with adults and adolescents from all walks of life. My expertise includes substance abuse, trauma, PTSD, depression, relationships, and family concerns. I understand that sometimes people go through difficult times and may feel like something is wrong with them because they have problems. Nothing could be further from the truth. Having difficulties is part of the human experience. Many people pretend they're okay when they're not, keeping their pain and suffering to themselves out of fear of abandonment and rejection. Therapy can open the door for you to stop pretending you're ?fine.? You can find the freedom to be yourself. Therapy can help you come out of isolation and start living again. You'll begin to feel better because you're showing the real you and connecting with someone. I can be a ?loving witness to your pain.? I hold a Master's in Clinical Social Work from Loyola University Chicago, which has equipped me with the skills to support you through your healing journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I’m easy-going and interactive. I believe we all need to become secure in ourselves and become authentic. I don't spend time being "politically correct” because that is not the real you. In our first session, I'll get some background information and we'll go over the issues you're most concerned about. Then, we'll hit the ground running. We'll develop treatments goals and make a flexible treament plan to guide us. If you feel the people in your life don’t get you, well, I do. I can help you feel heard and understood.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My strength is in my ability to connect with clients and making them feel comfortable. I don't worry about the small stuff. I want you to feel comfortable and safe in your sessions. I'm good at seeing people's strengths. I know how to build on your assets and to create a strong foundation for a better life. I care about helping clients get better. I've worked in a variety of settings with clients of all ages and cultures. They have taught me so much about what works for them and what doesn't. I'm invested in helping you get better. I want to build a mutually beneficial relationship. I don't believe in the therapist coming from a high place, looking down on the client. I listen to what your goals are for therapy. It's not about what I think you should want. I want to work with clients who want to find solutions to their problems, not someone who is willing to stay in the problem or someone who is resistant to getting better. You will be validated and supported by me. I can help you stay on the right path. I can be firm, if neccesary, but I am always caring and compassionate.
