Janie Coon, LCSW

Psychotherapist

My style is down-to-earth and collaborative. I’m here to listen, laugh with you when it helps, and sit with the hard stuff when it feels too heavy to carry alone. Together, we’ll create calm, rebuild trust in yourself, and shift the patterns holding back. I work with people who feel like their minds just won’t quit, carrying the weight of all the “what ifs.” From the outside, you might look like you’ve got it all together, but inside you feel restless, tense, or worn down. Living with pressure, navigating chronic illness, or healing from religious trauma can take a huge toll.

Getting to know Janie Coon

My style is down-to-earth and collaborative. I’m here to listen, laugh with you when it helps, and sit with the hard stuff when it feels too heavy to carry alone. Together, we’ll create calm, rebuild trust in yourself, and shift the patterns holding back. I work with people who feel like their minds just won’t quit, carrying the weight of all the “what ifs.” From the outside, you might look like you’ve got it all together, but inside you feel restless, tense, or worn down. Living with pressure, navigating chronic illness, or healing from religious trauma can take a huge toll.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is trauma-informed and rooted in nervous system healing, with a focus on boundaries, identity, and creating relationships that feel safe and balanced. I also offer EMDR therapy, which can help ease the grip of old experiences that fuel your symptoms. I also pull from attachment focused therapy, ACT, relational therapy and DBT. If you’re looking for guidance, support, and a safe space to land, I’d love to walk alongside you. I know how important trust is in therapy, and I don’t take that lightly. My goal is to create a space where you feel seen, heard, and understood.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When I first begin working with a client, I usually start with a thorough intake session where I learn about their background, current challenges, and what they hope to get out of therapy. We spend time clarifying their goals and values so that we’re both on the same page about what matters most to them. From there, our work is very collaborative. I draw a lot from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which means we focus on building acceptance around what can’t be changed, identifying unhelpful thought patterns, and taking small, meaningful steps toward living in alignment with their values. I also integrate mindfulness, stress reduction strategies, and practical tools to help clients feel more grounded day to day. Throughout the process, I check in regularly to see what’s working and what isn’t. Some clients like more structure and skill-building, while others need more space for reflection and support and we adjust accordingly. Ultimately, my process is about creating a safe, supportive space where clients feel understood, while also leaving each session with something tangible they can try or reflect on between sessions.
