Psychotherapist
TX
I believe we were created to live life in relationships with others and that therapy can help us tap into our potential to live enjoyable, more meaningful lives. From our earliest memories as part of our development, we begin to learn and practice how to interact with others within a family system. Understanding these experiences influences how we relate to family, friends, and peers, as well as impacts our ability to adapt successfully in life. Whether it's a relationship crisis, a life transition, family stress, or other challenging life issues, I will provide you with behavioral and relational tools that can bring about restoration, healing, and personal growth. Along with my background as a licensed counselor with a Master's in Counseling from the Seminary of the Southwest, I bring prior career experience as a nurse. I understand the unpredictable nature of serious illness, traumatic injury, and end-of-life issues. I have experience working with active-duty military affected by PTSD, as well as their family members and significant others. I am trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (approved by the VA for treatment of PTSD) and in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy, which helps clients recover from traumatic experiences. EMDR has the power to relieve clients of their traumatic memories and decrease negative emotions associated with that trauma (see emdria.org for more information). Change and healing require time, vulnerability, and trust in the person walking beside you. I know this from personal experience in my own life and the times I've benefited from meeting with a therapist. No matter your background, faith, or nationality, I would be honored to meet with you in a safe, compassionate, and caring environment as you seek a healthier mental, physical, and spiritual life.
