Getting to know Janis Davila

I am a licensed mental health counselor dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges and improve their overall well-being. I work with children, teens, adults experiencing concerns such as anxiety, stress, depression, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm. My goal is to provide a supportive and nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable exploring their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process, and I work alongside my clients to identify patterns, build healthier coping strategies, and develop meaningful changes that support long-term emotional health. I understand that starting therapy can feel like a big step. My focus is to create a safe and welcoming environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout the therapeutic process.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients often describe my approach as supportive, collaborative, and practical. I strive to create a space where individuals feel comfortable discussing difficult topics while also working toward meaningful personal growth. I use evidence-based approaches tailored to each client’s unique needs, helping individuals better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together we explore patterns, identify goals, and develop tools that support emotional well-being both inside and outside of therapy. I believe therapy works best when clients feel safe, understood, and actively involved in the process. My role is to guide, support, and provide helpful insights while empowering clients to build the skills and confidence needed to navigate challenges in their daily lives.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is focused on getting to know you and understanding what has brought you to therapy. During this time we discuss your concerns, current challenges, personal history, and goals for treatment. This helps us determine the best approach moving forward. In ongoing sessions, we work together to explore patterns, develop coping strategies, and address the concerns that are most important to you. Sessions may involve discussing current stressors, identifying emotional triggers, learning new ways to manage thoughts and emotions, and practicing practical skills that can be applied in daily life. Therapy is a collaborative process, and the pace is guided by your comfort level and goals. Over time, many clients begin to notice improvements in self-awareness, emotional regulation, and their ability to handle life’s challenges more effectively.
