Psychotherapist
MO
Hello, I'm Jaresa. Since 1997, I've dedicated my life to serving children and families. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology from the University of St. Mary, a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Kansas, and a certification in Play Therapy from Mid-America Nazarene University. Additionally, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Before starting my private practice, I served as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) at one of the largest hospitals in the metropolitan Kansas City area. In this role, I provided crisis intervention, risk assessment, diagnostic impressions using the DSM-V-TR, and short-term stabilization services for the city's most vulnerable populations. Working with clients who had dual diagnoses, faced poverty, and dealt with chronic mental illnesses, I developed treatment strategies as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the Emergency Departments. This experience allowed me to interface with both internal and external treatment providers to ensure appropriate referrals and support for patients. Throughout my career, I've had the honor of working with children with severe emotional disturbances as a Service Coordinator for Children’s Mental Healthcare and a Mental Health Therapist at a private agency. From 2008 to 2013, I served as a statewide mental health case management trainer, and I take great pride in my efforts to eliminate the stigma of mental illness and promote awareness through my work as a trainer for Mental Health First Aid. In my ongoing commitment to education, I've been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare Master of Social Work program and the Ottawa University Human Services program since 2013. As the BSW Student Services Coordinator for the 2+2 Program at the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare from February 2014 to December 2016, I supported countless aspiring social workers in achieving their dreams. My therapeutic approach is grounded in a strengths-based perspective. I firmly believe that we all have the ability to overcome obstacles through our natural gifts, talents, and abilities. Recognizing these strengths from the beginning is crucial, as it provides a foundation to build upon. I strive to help individuals tap into their strengths and support them in recognizing their potential. If you're ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery and growth, I would be honored to support you. Let's work together to harness your strengths and achieve your goals.
