What should a new client know about working with you?

As a psychotherapist with over two decades of experience in diverse clinical settings, I am deeply committed to offering you not just my expertise, but also a partnership in your journey towards healing and personal growth. My approach to therapy is grounded in trauma-informed care. This means that I prioritize creating a space that is not only safe but deeply empathetic. I understand that each individual's experience with trauma is unique, and I am dedicated to approaching each session with sensitivity, respect, and a non-judgmental stance. With a master’s degree in clinical counseling and ongoing pursuit of a doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision, I am continually enhancing my knowledge and skills. This commitment to continuous learning ensures that I bring the most current and effective strategies to our sessions. In our time together, you can expect a therapy experience that is tailored to your individual needs. I believe in combining understanding and support with practical strategies to help you navigate life's challenges. Our goal will be not just to address immediate concerns but to equip you with tools and insights for a fulfilling life. As we embark on this journey, remember that you are not alone. I am here to support and guide you as we explore paths to positive change together. I look forward to meeting you and being a part of your journey.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session will consist of centering ourselves before embarking on processing salient matters that you, the client, wants to address and potentially resolve. I'm trained in a lot of skills, procedures, and techniques; none more valuable and important that listening. I'm not a mind-reader (no-one is) and therefore I listen intently before responding with affirmation, support, and relevant interventions. A review of the session takes place with approximately 10 minutes left in the session. If 'homework' is appropriate, I will explain what is required of you before the next session. I don't judge or hold you accountable for completing your 'homework'. I work for you, and you are always empowered to make executive decisions about the recommendations I make in session. Remember, you are the expert of you, I assist in creating the space for you to understand who you are, what has happened to you, and what you can do about it moving forward. The therapy session is an opportunity to 'think and feel out loud' in a safe and confidential space - something that is rarely practiced in our society today but could very well be at the root of our 'dis-ease'.
