Getting to know Jason Sterwerf

Jason is a Clinical Counselor and the Founder/Clinical Director of Landmark Therapy, LLC. Jason brings his personal authenticity and calm integrity to his work, which allows clients to feel more at ease and encouraged to engage in therapy. A strong attention to the dynamics between people makes him uniquely suited to provide counseling on couples' issues, men's issues, and adolescent issues. In addition to over 10 years of clinical experience, he brings a breadth of skills from his personal experiences as a husband and father of seven. Jason provides direct services that address issues related to anxiety/panic and stress, adolescence, blended/stepfamilies, the child welfare system, adoption, substance use treatment, and the impact of the criminal justice system. His vast network of community connections allows him to introduce clients to additional resources as needed. In addition to his practice, he is building a program as the Social Service Coordinator for the McHenry Police Department to improve law enforcement responses to mental health and substance use disorders. He has developed a passion for working clinically with First Responders and Veterans. Prior to his current endeavors, Jason was the Director of the Office of Special Projects for the 22nd Judicial Circuit in Woodstock, IL, where he was responsible for Adult Drug, Mental Health, Veterans, and DUI Courts. His program was awarded over $2 million in grant funding to implement programs, improve treatment outcomes for participants, conduct testing for transmittable diseases, assist with housing options, and support family reunification. The Specialty Courts in McHenry County were also selected as one of ten mentor courts for the National Drug Court Institute in the U.S. to teach best practices and effectively manage treatment programs. Jason earned his M.S. in Clinical and Community Psychology from National Louis University, Chicago Campus.
