Getting to know Javier Meléndez

My name is Javier Meléndez (he/him), and I am a licensed clinical social worker with a Master’s in Social Work from Andrews University. I’m grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside others on their journey toward healing and wholeness. I have a love for nature and the outdoors, and I believe that reestablishing our connection to nature and the Earth is essential to our physical and psychological well-being. In my practice, I use mindfulness and embodiment in the context of nature to help empower clients throughout their therapeutic journey. I work with individuals looking to heal from past trauma, particularly spiritual and intergenerational traumas, as well as those struggling with their sexual identity. I also treat disorders that often accompany trauma and sexual identity challenges, such as anxiety, depression, existential distress, and relationship issues with family. With my combined experience as a licensed clinical social worker (5 years) and a youth and young adult minister (5 years), I have at least 10 years of counseling experience and can provide Christian counseling for those interested. I identify as bi and am able to support LGBT individuals who have experienced spiritual trauma or abuse, and/or those who are deconstructing or rebuilding their faith. I am bilingual in Spanish and English and have worked primarily with Latinx populations. My hope is that clients become more in tune with their thoughts, emotions, body, and nature to more effectively regulate their nervous system, promoting a more mindful, embodied, and connected way of life. Together, we can work toward self-acceptance, spiritual peace, and conflict resolution within family relationships. I look forward to working with you and commend you for taking this step toward wholeness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Together we will explore areas of life that are impacted by the presenting problem and develop a plan to reduce distress and cognitive dissonance in those areas. In a session, I aim to create a safe space for clients, a “refuge” away from daily stressors. We will engage in practices of mindfulness and embodiment to increase our body awareness which in turn will help with regulating our nervous systems and emotions. By providing mindfulness and embodiment techniques I hope that you will leave sessions feeling a sense of peace and empowerment to live life as your most authentic self. You can also expect to connect with nature in your work with me. Time in nature has shown many positive physical and psychological benefits, therefore, it is an essential component of my practice.

In-network insurances

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
