“I honestly can’t say enough good things about this therapist. As a gay Latino man, finding a psychotherapist who truly gets the cultural stuff, the family dynamics, the identity layers, the joy, and the stress means everything. From the very first session, I felt seen, respected, and safe to be my full self without having to over-explain who I am. Jean has a balance of warmth and challenge that has helped me grow in ways I didn’t expect. I never feel judged, rushed, or talked down to, just genuinely supported and thoughtfully guided. I’ve gained clarity, confidence, and tools I actually use in my real, everyday life. If you’re queer, Latino, or just someone looking for a therapist who is culturally attuned, emotionally intelligent, and deeply committed to her work, I can’t recommend them enough. Truly a game-changer.”

Getting to know Jean Griffin Borho

ABOUT ME The adults, couples, and groups I work with share similar goals: to gain insight into themselves, identify the obstacles that hold them back from living the lives they want, and develop healthy coping mechanisms to handle their issues. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, depression, unresolved trauma, relationship problems, or life transitions, I provide a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive environment to help you process your challenges. I am passionate about helping my clients learn how to make meaningful, lasting changes in their lives. Most of my practice focuses on individuals experiencing depression and anxiety stemming from unprocessed childhood trauma. As an IFS-informed therapist, I use insight-oriented therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy, among others, to help clients process their trauma and achieve their treatment goals. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of Southern California, which has equipped me with a strong foundation to support my clients effectively.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Are you feeling down and unmotivated? Are your worries and concerns contributing to the idea that nothing in your life is going to change for the better? Do overwhelming emotions negatively impact the way you interact with the people you love and respect? If so, therapy can provide a safe and supportive environment to help you overcome past traumas and negative patterns to create a new, healthy future. I'm here to support you in achieving your goals by jointly creating a plan to take steps towards your desired outcomes. By working together, we can make progress towards improving your mental health.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During the first session, I complete a formal intake to understand why clients have decided to start working with a therapist. Together, we will come up with a treatment plan and achievable goals. The sessions after the initial intake predominantly follow psychodynamic practices and consist of a conversational approach to help clients make the lasting changes they desire.

My anxiety used to feel overwhelming. Over time, I’ve learned how to manage it instead of fighting it. I’m calmer, more confident, and better equipped to handle everyday stress.
I was nervous to start therapy, but from the first session I felt heard and respected. My therapist helped me understand patterns I’d been stuck in for years and gave me practical tools I still use daily. I’ve made real progress.
