Getting to know Jeannie Daw Martinez

Do you feel anxious or depressed? Maybe you’re not even sure why. But you’re here because you’re ready to make a change in your life and your relationships. And I’m here to help you with practical tools to: Work through anxiety and depression Overcome hurts from childhood Build the life and healthy relationships you want Restore a sense of safety in your body and your relationships Clients describe me as someone who’s compassionate, but who will “tell it like it is.” I believe that most problems in our relationships and well-being come from unmet needs in childhood. I help my clients learn to heal through mindfulness, reparenting, and finding a sense of safety through Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) or somatic therapy. At the same time, we need to identify and challenge negative beliefs that we have about ourselves and the world. This is a process called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Through therapy, we can develop self-awareness, healthy boundaries, and assertive communication. These are skills we can all learn to help us feel better and work towards the life and healthy relationships we want.

What should a new client know about working with you?

*Once you book the appointment, you'll receive an email from Headway (the platform this therapist uses) with next steps - please follow the email to create your Headway account. You'll be required to add payment and insurance information ahead of the session in order to see this specific therapist* If you want to know what it is like to visit with me, imagine Mr. Rogers and Dolly Parton had a baby. I will validate your feelings and listen before giving feedback. I'm also told I am pretty direct and honest as well. I like to get to the root cause of conflicts, depression, and anxiety which can be a grueling process. I use humor and mindfulness techniques to help clients tolerate the discomfort that frequently comes with growth.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is to understand what brought you to me, and how I can help. We will set some goals. I prefer to meet with clients once a week for a few weeks, and we can move to every other week when the time is right. My ultimate goal is to work myself out of a job with you!
