Getting to know Jeff Pirtle

I have been working with people and families for almost 20 years. I was born and raised in Borger Texas, a small town in the panhandle. I received my Bachelors degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Texas Tech University in 1985. I completed my Masters degree in Educational Psychology from Texas Tech in 1990. Since receiving my degrees I have worked in numerous inpatient and outpatient settings and have gained a great deal of experience in many different areas.

What should a new client know about working with you?

While I have experience working with many issues, I work most often with families, couples and adolescents. I also work with adult individuals. Over the years I have successfully worked with blended families, parenting issues, divorce, marital issues, trauma, adolescent issues, ADHD, and behavior issues with children. I have a great deal of experience working with most psychiatric diagnoses and often work in conjunction with a clients psychiatrist.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach to helping others is fairly direct. While I have not read or watched Dr. Phil a great deal from what I have seen and read his approach and mine are very similar. I have experience working with moderate to severe psychiatric issues but the majority of my practice is working with “Normal people with normal problems”. Many people especially men do not seek help due to the fact that they already know what the problem is and don’t need anyone else’s help. We believe we can do it ourselves. Many times I am in the role of a professional consultant helping people work with the issues they already know exist. Due to my training and experience I can give tips and guidance that often times others have not thought about.
