What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) and Certified Sex Therapist (CST). I have experience working with diverse populations, and as a gay man, my personal struggles with addiction inspired me to pursue a career in therapy to help our community develop healthier coping strategies. My personal experiences have helped develop a deeper understanding of the struggles and obstacles individuals encounter in the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as the areas where psychotherapy can be most impactful for the clients that walk through our door. As a therapist, it is important to be able to find a space where people feel welcome and supported. At Severance Therapy, clients are welcomed no matter their background, experiences, race, ethnicity gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Every client is unique and should be treated as so. Our practice uses a range of therapeutic approaches that vary between clinicians. At Severance, we believe it is important to treat the client holistically and through a biopsychosocial lens. We make every effort to create a warm and inviting environment where individuals can feel completely at ease and build a meaningful therapeutic relationship. This safe and supportive space allows clients to open up and share their thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. We believe that fostering a sense of safety and security is crucial in the therapeutic process, as it promotes a deeper exploration of one's emotions and experiences. The name "Severance" symbolizes my primary objective of assisting you in detaching from and overcoming any challenging circumstances. Through our sessions, our clinicians will work together to identify and address any difficult emotions that may be affecting you. By exploring these emotions, we can effectively "sever" their hold on your life and create a pathway toward healing and growth. In addition to creating a safe and supportive space, we aim to empower you. Therapy is not just about addressing immediate challenges; it is about equipping you with the tools, focusing on your strengths (in addition to opportunities for growth), and skills to navigate through difficult moments in the future. Through our work together, you will develop a greater sense of self-awareness, resilience, and strength. By empowering you, we believe that you can emerge from therapy stronger, more confident, and ready to face any challenges that come your way. We look forward to working with you and hope that we are able to work together to achieve whatever goals you hope to work toward.
