Hello and welcome! I'm Jeff Duckworth, a licensed clinical social worker and the founder of Rogue Sun Counseling & Consulting. I've worked in the substance abuse field since 2013 and mental health since 2020. I've had the privilege to work as the Clinical Director at Blue Ridge Mountain Recovery Center and as the Executive Director at Hope Harbor Wellness and West Georgia Wellness Center. I'm particularly passionate about trauma and substance abuse issues. My mission is to resolve mental preoccupations that cause suffering and fragment the self. When we recognize that we're preoccupied, what we've really discovered is a path to growth. Once we figure out what is really causing the preoccupation, getting unstuck becomes much easier!

What should a new client know about working with you?

Most people don't come to therapy because of one big thing. It's more often a slow burn; the days start blurring together, the people around you feel farther away than they should, and the things that used to help now just feel like something to hide. If you're here because you're tired of pretending it's fine, that's a good enough reason. I've spent years sitting with people in that spot, the ones who look like they have it together from the outside and are barely holding it together on the inside. My job isn't to fix you. It's to give you a place where you can be honest about what's actually going on, and start figuring out what real healing looks like for your life, not the version of it that sounds good in theory. This work matters to me because I know change is possible. I've seen people reclaim their lives from addiction, reconnect after trauma, and discover parts of themselves they thought were lost. Whether you're here because of trauma, anxiety, or the feeling that you're just not living the life you want, you're not alone. And you don't have to navigate it alone. Healing looks different for everyone, which is why the way we work together matters. I use a range of therapeutic approaches that are selected intentionally, based on what works. The goal isn't just symptom relief, but deeper alignment with who you truly are and what your life is asking of you now.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is usually a biopsychosocial assessment. I want to understand not just what's going on for you right now, but the fuller picture: your history, your relationships, your body, your patterns. If trauma is part of what brought you in, we'll spend some time mapping that out too, not to relive it, but to understand how it's still showing up. From there, we build a treatment plan together. This isn't me handing you a diagnosis and a protocol. It's a conversation about what you want to work toward and what approach makes sense for getting you there. Once we're in the actual work, most weeks follow a similar rhythm. We deal with whatever's most present for you that week, the thing that's loud right now, and then we continue on to the deeper patterns and history that brought you into the room in the first place. Some sessions are more grounded in the present, some go further back. Over time, both threads move you forward.
