Getting to know Jeffrey Obiekwe

Do you feel like you're constantly "on," yet struggling to keep your head above water? I work with high-achieving professionals, overwhelmed parents, and teens who feel stuck in a cycle of anxiety, chronic stress, or self-doubt. My clients often feel they are "just getting by" and are ready to move from surviving to thriving. What should a new client know about working with you?

I often use CBT in my practice. In our first session, we'll explore what brought you to therapy and then decide the best ways to help you make progress. With CBT, we'll look at how your thoughts affect your emotions and experience. During treatment, I'll help you learn how to push back against those thoughts to change your feelings for the better.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My goal is to make our sessions the most productive time of your week. We start with a comprehensive intake to understand your history and, more importantly, your specific goals for therapy. I don't just sit back and nod; I use a structured, evidence-based approach called TEAM-CBT. A typical session includes: Mood Check-In: We briefly track your progress since our last meeting to ensure we are moving the needle. Agenda Setting: You decide what is most important to tackle today so we stay focused on your needs. Active Work: We use specific techniques (CBT, DBT, or Mindfulness) to challenge the negative thoughts or behaviors causing you distress. Action Plan: We co-create a "take-home" strategy so you can practice your new skills in the real world between sessions. Whether we are addressing anxiety, depression, or relationship stress, you can expect a space that is collaborative, culturally sensitive, and focused on tangible results.
