Getting to know Jeffrey Silverman

We will utilize your strengths to help you develop your weaknesses. My sessions are an enjoyable balance of talking, playing board games (with kids), learning new skills, practicing those new skills, and reviewing the previous week's homework. You and your child will see noticeable results after completing each homework assignment. Children learn 11 steps of self-regulation. Parents learn 8 parent coaching techniques to regulate their child and form more secure bonds. Techniques are used in conjunction with those already learned for maximum efficiency. You will see noticeable and encouraging results after successfully completing the first homework assignment. Homework is always tailored to each person's needs and their mental health patterns. Ninety percent of all clients successfully complete therapy after completing and integrating the new skills. This is approximately 12-16 sessions for the kids and/or 10-12 for the parents. In most cases, only the self-regulation techniques OR the parent coaching techniques are needed to make the symptoms end. This would mean 2 sessions per month (except when the child is a danger to themselves or others) for approximately 6-8 months. If your child is the one coming in for the sessions, they will find the sessions fun, funny, and engaging, as I love to be playful, have fun, and joke around with the kids. Parents are always welcome to sit in on sessions unless the child prefers otherwise. You can choose whether to come to the first session with or without your child based on whether you want to pick my brain or see how I connect with your child. And the first visit is free! I hold a Master's degree in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University and a Bachelor's degree from American University, which inform my approach and commitment to your family's mental health and growth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a very direct and honest therapist who whole heartedly believes that child and adolescent therapy should be fun and/or engaging. I am research and results driven and believe that therapy should produce noticeable results on a timely basis.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Sessions often include board games and fun/engaging conversation. Relevant information is gathered while having fun, a new concept and associated skill is taught and practiced, and the new skill is assigned to be used minimally once or twice between sessions in order to create real life integration. The following session starts with reviewing the previous session's homework.
