Getting to know Jenafer Delaney

As a clinical social worker practicing as a psychotherapist you can expect me to be holistic in my approach, open to assist in problem solving as well as providing clinical interventions depending on treatment plan and presenting need. I enjoy my work in holding space for emotion processing, providing psychoeducation to empower through education on the nervous system and appropriate reactions, and sharing in joys and triumphs.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My primary mode of intervention is Internal Family Systems which theorizes that mental health disorders are actually appropriate responses to unsupportive environments and my work with clients is to identify the good intentions of loud and painful emotions thereby allowing them to relax. I will also engage in psychoeducation which can be empowering to understand why the body does what it does. I also provide self-actualization opportunities with value’s work and intentionally creating a fulfilling life direction.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During an intake appointment we will review personal and family history, goals, concerns, and previous therapy experiences. I like to establish a good therapeutic relationship, inviting corrections and clarifications on my interpretations of client’s experiences. As the treatment continues we will vary between standard talk therapy, so I can get to know you and you can find new words for significant internal experiences, and IFS/Somatic work to teach the body a secure relationship to painful emotions. We will combine the cognitive with felt/bodily understanding.
