Jenna Smith, LCAT

Psychotherapist
NY
As a little kid, I was always singing. Throughout my life, singing has been a constant creative outlet that has helped me express myself, connect to myself and others, and feel confident in the world. As a creative arts therapist, I support children and adults toward healing and growth in psychotherapy by helping them access and cultivate their own creative potential. I believe that everyone can access their creativity, and that our connection to ourselves and the world around us can be improved through this avenue. Everyone has the capacity for growth and change. Our therapeutic relationship is customized to your needs and can include modalities such as music, mindfulness, meditation, learning some Dialectical or Cognitive Behavioral Skills (DBT & CBT), connecting more to the body, or traditional talk therapy. As a licensed creative arts therapist and music psychotherapist, I use an integrative, trauma-informed, humanistic, person-centered, and often somatic approach to growth and healing. I utilize music, art, play therapy, and mindfulness, as well as traditional talk therapy, to foster self-expression and exploration in order to access and process challenging experiences while nurturing self-discovery, acceptance, self-compassion, and forgiveness. By focusing on forgiveness and compassion, we forge the path together toward healing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I love my job! We will find the right avenue in which to do therapy, where it's traditional talk therapy, incorporating some somatic experiences, practicing regulating our bodies through meditation or the creative arts - we are on this journey together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We usually do a check in, how was the week, what came up that was challeniging? We remind ourselves of continued goals in therapy, and brainstorm if there are any new goals we want to focus on. Then it's up to you what we focus in on and I'l have some ideas as to how. We wrap up and look forward to the next time we meet.

I can also help you sign up for "Open Path Psychotherapy", an organization I work for that allows folks to spend as low as $40 for therapy! Whatever your financial situation is, we will find a way.
