Getting to know Jenna Stone

I am currently offering virtual appointments to residents of New York State. I utilize an eclectic, strengths-based, psychodynamic approach. What this means is that in therapy we will examine the unconscious processes and early childhood experiences that influence your current behavior and emotions. We will do so as a team using various evidence-based practices that celebrate your existing strengths and skills. Together, we can explore your thoughts and feelings, the history that produced them, and the changes you can make to feel more fully alive-experiencing a sense of being seen and understood, recognizing your inherent worthiness of love, and embracing your capacity to form deep connections with others. I hold a firm belief in your ability to grow, heal, and transform. I encourage you to be authentic, and I assure you I will be authentic in return. I have your back, even when I might need to say what you don't want to hear. I earned my Master's in Clinical Social Work from SUNY University at Buffalo, which has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support you on this journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My objective is to assist you in acknowledging, understanding, and moving beyond the barriers that have prevented you from attaining what you want from life. The principles of authenticity, empathy, compassion, and curiosity are fundamental to fostering profound transformation. I recognize that you are the expert of your own life, and as such, I will customize my approach to align with your needs throughout our time together. I will sit with you in difficult moments, offer compassion and unconditional support, sprinkle in humor where I can, and serve as your cheerleader as I will challenge you to try new things.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I offer every prospective client a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation. This initial conversation allows me to ask some general assessment questions to determine if I would be a suitable therapist for your needs and to evaluate our potential compatibility. I encourage you to use this time to ask any questions you may have, as your comfort and active participation in therapy are crucial for achieving your goals. Once we agree to work together, we will schedule regular virtual sessions, typically on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, and then we will begin the therapeutic process. I strive to create a comfortable, safe, and nonjudgmental environment where you can freely express your thoughts and feelings. During our sessions, I will listen with compassion and empathy, provide feedback on what you have shared, as well as offer tools and strategies to help you challenge your behaviors and thought processes. I believe both trying new things and learning are crucial steps to growth and healing. When appropriate, I will sometimes recommend various exercises, further education, or experiences as “homework” for you to complete during the week to support your hard work towards your goals outside the therapy session. You can do hard things!
