Getting to know Jenna Stone

I am currently offering virtual appointments to residents of New York State. I believe meaningful change begins with feeling truly seen, understood, and accepted. Together, we can explore the thoughts, emotions, experiences, and patterns that have shaped your life while working toward greater self-understanding, stronger relationships, and a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling. I approach therapy with authenticity, empathy, compassion, and curiosity, and I believe you are the expert on your own life. My role is not to tell you who to be, but to help you better understand yourself so you can make intentional, lasting changes aligned with what matters most to you. My work is informed by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). While I integrate techniques from each of these evidence-based approaches, I have developed a particular passion for Internal Family Systems and have found it to be an especially compassionate, trauma-sensitive, and holistic model for creating meaningful change. I currently have limited availability and am especially interested in working with clients who are open to incorporating IFS into our work together.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I don't believe therapy should feel like following a script. Every person brings a unique history, personality, and set of strengths, so I don't use a one size fits all approach. Instead, I tailor treatment to fit your individual needs while drawing from multiple evidence-based therapies. Although I often recommend beginning with an Internal Family Systems framework because of its depth and flexibility, I view therapy as a collaborative process and will continually adapt our work based on what is most effective for you. You can expect me to be genuine, engaged, and direct while remaining compassionate and nonjudgmental. I will support you, challenge you when it serves your growth, and help you better understand the patterns that may be keeping you stuck. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe enough to be authentic while building the insight and skills necessary to make lasting changes outside of therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I offer every prospective client an optional complimentary 15-minute phone consultation. This initial conversation allows us both to ask some questions to determine if we would be a compatible client-therapist match for your needs. I encourage you to use this time to ask any questions you may have, as your comfort and active participation in therapy are crucial for achieving your goals. I will ask you some general assessment questions (what do you want out of therapy/have you been to therapy before) and also safety assessment questions (addiction, hallucinations/delusions, eating disorders, etc.) to ensure outpatient therapy is the best match for your needs. Once we agree to work together, we will schedule regular virtual sessions, typically on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, and then we will begin the therapeutic process. Our first few sessions focus on developing a thorough understanding of who you are—not just the concerns that brought you to therapy, but also your relationships, life experiences, strengths, values, and the patterns that have developed over time. Together, we'll identify meaningful goals and create a treatment plan that reflects what you hope to gain from therapy. Throughout the process, I regularly check in to ensure our work continues to meet your goals, recognizing that effective therapy should evolve as you do.
