Getting to know Jennifer Brau

I'm a licensed clinical social worker and substance abuse counselor for Wisconsin and Illinois. I have been practicing therapy for 12 years but have been in the field of social work since 2000. I received my undergraduate degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire in 2000 and my graduate degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee in 2005. My professional experience includes work in child welfare, treatment foster care, adoption, parenting concerns, substance use, domestic violence, trauma, anxiety, stress, LGBTQIA, and life transitions. Every reason for beginning or continuing therapy is a good one but they often do not fit inclusively on a list. I am always open to having a discussion about those reasons and exploring how I can partner with you on your path or guide you in the direction that I believe will be the best fit for your needs. I feel that using an eclectic approach, choosing concepts from different therapeutic modalities that are best suited for each individual person and concern, is the most inclusive way to join up with someone. I believe that building a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation to creating a safe space to do the work of therapy. When I am not working I enjoy time with my family on our hobby farm, reading good books, exploring antique shops, and a sunrise or sunset with a good cup of coffee.
