Jennifer Coleman, LPC

Psychotherapist
SC
My name is Jennifer Coleman, and I am a licensed professional counselor. I earned my Master’s in Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and my Bachelor’s degree from Georgian Court University. I believe in developing a rapport with clients to form a working relationship, using a person-centered approach initially until I learn the best counseling method to fit each client. I utilize various techniques addressing underlying emotions and issues with families, children, adolescents, and marriage counseling. My approach I often use a cognitive-behavioral approach, especially with children, to focus on how thought processes affect behaviors. I also use DBT for anxiety and solution-focused therapy with families. With teenagers, I use reality therapy and music therapy. My focus I initially worked in early intervention, so I am comfortable with young children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. I address behavior problems, anxiety, mood disorders, domestic/dating violence, marital issues, substance abuse, and transition challenges like divorce, moving, or retirement. I also support life stages with the elderly and teenagers, particularly in identity development. My communication style I strive to create a calm, relaxed environment so clients feel comfortable opening up and establishing rapport. My journey to mental healthcare I became a counselor to contribute to healing the community through my education and compassionate personality. My goals for you I begin with an assessment and develop a treatment plan with 2-4 goals that best address the client’s needs. My first session with you The initial session gathers background details on family history, mental health issues, and previous counseling to complete a diagnostic assessment.
