Getting to know Jennifer Gomes

Jennifer Gomes, LMSW, is a Licensed Master Social Worker with experience supporting children, adolescents, and adults across school-based, inpatient behavioral health, and community mental health settings. She specializes in working with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, behavioral challenges, trauma, stress, and life transitions. Jennifer uses a compassionate, strengths-based approach focused on creating a supportive environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to build practical coping skills and confidence in their daily lives.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe therapy works best when people feel comfortable, respected, and genuinely heard. My style is supportive, down-to-earth, and collaborative. I understand that starting therapy can feel uncomfortable or overwhelming, so I focus on creating a space where clients can show up as they are without fear of judgment. I use a strengths-based and practical approach, often incorporating CBT techniques, emotional regulation skills, and supportive problem-solving to help clients manage stress, anxiety, behavioral challenges, and life transitions. I also understand that every person is different, and I work to tailor sessions to each client’s individual needs, goals, and comfort level.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach begins with getting to know each client as a person, not just focusing on symptoms or challenges. In our first sessions, we will discuss what brought you to therapy, your goals, current stressors, strengths, and any past experiences that may be important to your care. I work at a pace that feels comfortable and supportive for each individual. A typical session is conversational, collaborative, and focused on helping clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and coping patterns. Depending on the client’s needs, sessions may include supportive talk therapy, CBT-based strategies, emotional regulation skills, problem-solving, stress management, and developing practical tools that can be used in everyday life. My goal is to help clients feel supported while building insight, confidence, and healthier ways of managing challenges both inside and outside of therapy.
