Jennifer Hornbeck, LSWAIC, MSW

WA
I specialize in trauma treatment, LGBTQIA+ mental health therapy, and gender-affirming mental health therapy. I also have experience helping individuals address a wide array of issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma such as PTSD, bipolar disorder, stress management, and relationship conflicts. Additionally, I have worked as a social worker with children in foster care and their families, as well as with youth and adults in community mental health settings. I earned my master's degree in social work, with an emphasis on social justice, from Seattle University. I am passionate about supporting individuals on their journey of healing and wellness. As a social worker, I have considerable experience meeting people where they are-physically, emotionally, and mentally. I utilize the person-in-environment theory, which emphasizes the crucial role one's environment plays in mental health and overall well-being. Committed to creating an anti-oppressive practice, my approach to therapy values self-determination and empowerment while acknowledging the importance of intersectionality. I strive to address the impact that implicit bias and privilege can have on the therapeutic relationship. My approach to therapy is strengths-based and grounded in the belief that each person is the expert on their own life. I draw from a variety of theories and techniques tailored to each client's needs, including cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, art therapy, and mindfulness. For trauma treatment, I use a brain-based, mind-body approach that integrates somatic (bottom-up) and cognitive (top-down) techniques. I employ a trauma-informed approach to assess the unique needs of each client and provide psychoeducation to help clients better understand their diagnosis and the treatment modalities I use.
